This guide explains how stock and out-of-stock thresholds work, how to update the
threshold for an existing item, and how to set a threshold when creating a new item.
Setting thresholds correctly ensures low-stock alerts appear before items
actually run out, helping you avoid shortages and keep inventory under control.
1. Understanding Stock and Out-of-Stock Threshold
- Stock — the total quantity of an item currently available in inventory.
- Out-of-stock threshold — the minimum stock level that triggers a low-stock alert.
Example: If an item has 100 units in stock and the
threshold is set to 10, the system will trigger an alert once stock
reaches 10 or below.
Why this matters:
- Helps prevent stock shortages.
- Supports better inventory control.
2. Locate the Existing Item to Update
- Go to the Operation, Manage Item and then Item Overview section.
- Search for the item whose threshold value needs to be updated.
- Select the item you want to edit. (In this example: Angus Beef Burger.)
- Click the item name, then open the variant name.
3.Open the Item Variant Update Stock and Threshold for the Existing Item
- Toggle the stock-dependent option so that the inventory fields appear.
- Scroll down to find the inventory fields.
- Confirm that the Stock in Hand and Out-of-Stock Threshold fields are visible.
- Enter or update the Stock in Hand value first.
- Enter the Out-of-Stock Threshold value next. (Example: set to 10.)
- Click Save Changes.
- Confirm the update when prompted.
The threshold for the existing item is now updated.
4. Create a New Item and Set Its Threshold
1.Go to Operation and select Add Item
2.Enter the new item details. (Example: Breads.)
3.Select the appropriate category.
4.Complete all required item information.
5. Enable Stock Dependency for the New Item
- Mark the new item as stock dependent. This displays the Stock in Hand and Out-of-Stock Threshold fields.
- Enter the Stock in Hand value first.
- Then enter the Out-of-Stock Threshold value.
- Review the entered stock and threshold values.
- Click Save to create the item.
- The new item will now use the configured threshold for low-stock alerts.
